Forest of Yambaru, March

Ricoh has launched to support Yambaru Branch of Japan Wild Birds Society in July 2002. The most important objective is to purchase land in order to keep precious Yambaru Forest as is, namely to run National Trust. But there are much to do before it.

Importance of Yambaru Forest is in fact not known to the people living in Okinawa. Further, people living in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu may know the name of “Okinawa Rail” but few of them must know that it lives only in Yambaru Forest.

The Forest of Yambaru-POST CARD

Thus, Ricoh has started the project from letting people know about Yambaru Forest.
First, in the railway stations, schools and gas stands near Yambaru, we have asked to put pamphlet that explained in detail what sort of forest Yambaru was and what was happening there now so as to have people visiting Yambaru read the pamphlet.
We have made picture postcards in use of accumulated pictures taken by semiprofessional cameramen who belonged to Yambaru Branch. Ricoh buys these postcards for use as a gift to customers. And in such occasion, we inform them that there is precious forest called Yambaru where all kinds of unique creatures live, such precious forest is endangered of destruction in the near future, many people should be interested in preserving the forest, stop people poaching precious creatures or throwing away pet cats and to drive carefully so that creatures do not have accident.
